Troubleshooting
Misuse of this product may adversely affect performance, even if this product is properly functional. If any of
the following problems occurs, be sure to check the following table for possible causes before requesting
service.
If you detect problems that are not listed below or the problem still persists after measures are taken, unplug
the power cord of the device and contact your nearest Nikon representative.
5.1

Optical

Dirt or dust in the viewfield
Problems
The specimen is dirty if dirt or dust moves when
the specimen is moved on the stage.
Objective is dirty if dirt or dust disappears when
the objective is switched.
The eyepiece is dirty if dirt or dust does not
move when the stage or objective is moved.
Aperture diaphragm is closed too far.
Poor image quality, low resolution, or contrast too low or too high
Problems
No coverglass is attached to the slide.
Coverglass is too thick or too thin.
Slide is upside down.
Lenses or specimen are dirty or dusty.
Aperture diaphragm is opened or closed too far.
No immersion oil is applied to the tip of the
oil-immersion objective.
Nikon immersion oil is not used for
oil-immersion observation.
Air bubbles in immersion oil.
Immersion oil adhering to the tip of the dry type
objective (especially 40x objective).
No coverglass is attached to the slide for
observation.

Chapter 5 Troubleshooting

Clean the specimen.
Clean the objective.
Clean the eyepiece.
Open properly. (→ Section 3.5)
Attach a coverglass 0.17 mm thick.
Use a coverglass of the specified thickness (0.17 mm).
Turn over the slide so that the cove glass faces up.
Check dirty or dusty parts, and then clean them as
appropriate by reference to the problems described in
"Dirt or dust in the viewfield". (→ Section 6.1)
Close or open properly. (→ Section 3.5)
Apply Nikon immersion oil to the objective.
(→ Section 3.6)
Apply Nikon immersion oil to the objective.
(→ Section 3.6)
Remove bubbles. (→ Section 3.6)
Clean the lens. (→ Sections 3.6, 6.1)
Attach a coverglass.
160/-: Can be used for both specimens with and without
a coverglass.
