actual antenna mounting. This type of antenna is much easier to align than those that have to
be rotated around the mounting pole for alignment.
13.8.2 Cables and Connectors
Cables should be selected using the above criteria. However it should be noted that LMR400
cable is a lot more difficult to handle and route than LMR100 cable.
Motorola recommends the use of weatherproof connectors. Preferable ones that come
supplied with adhesive lined heat shrink sleeve that is fitted over the cable/connector interface.
The connectors required at the connectorized 30/60 Mbps Backhaul end of the antenna cables
are N-Type Male.
The connectors required at the antenna end of the antenna cables are dependant on the
antenna type chosen.
13.8.3 Tools
The tools required for mounting a connectorized 60 Mbps Backhaul unit are the same as those
required for a 30/60 Mbps Backhaul with integrated antenna detailed in Section 7.3 "Tools
Required". The tools required for mounting the antennas are specific to the antenna chosen.
The installer should refer to the antenna manufacturer's instructions.
13.8.4 Miscellaneous supplies
The following miscellaneous supplies will be required:

Cable ties, cable cleats – for securing cables
•
Weather-tight wrap – to weatherproof the RF connectors
•
PVC tape – for additional protection of the RF connectors and securing cables
13.8.5 Mounting
Connectorized 30/60 Mbps Backhaul unit
A connectorized 30/60 Mbps Backhaul unit is supplied with the same bracket as supplied with a
integrated antenna 30/60 Mbps Backhaul. Details on the use of this bracket can be found in
Section 3.1.8 "Mounting Brackets". The connectorized 30/60 Mbps Backhaul unit should be
mounted in a position that gives it maximum protection from the elements but still allows easy
access for making off the various connections and applying the recommended weatherproofing.
When using dual polar antennas the 30/60 Mbps Backhaul unit should be mounted in such a
position as to minimize the cable length keeping losses to a minimum (taking into account the
minimum cable lengths required by the FCC regulations, see Section 13.7 "Antennas for ").
When using separate antennas the 30/60 Mbps Backhaul unit should be mounted in such a
position as to minimize both cable runs between the 30/60 Mbps Backhaul unit and the
antennas. It is not necessary to mount the 30/60 Mbps Backhaul radio at the mid point between
the antennas.
Antennas
The Antennas should be mounted according to the manufacturers' instructions. Actual antenna
position will depend on the available mounting positions and link requirements. It may be
necessary to mount the antennas 20m apart or at a certain distance from the ground to get the
desired results.
