11. TROUBLESHOOTING

Symptom
Power does not switch on.
(There is no sound pro-
duced.)
Sound quality is poor.
Nothing happens when
buttons are pressed, or the
display is not accurate.
Picture is dark.
Colors are pale or hue is
poor.
Spots or stripes on picture Interference signals
The compact disc does not
enter.
Sound skipping noise and
other noise are heard.
The sound is poor imme-
diately after switching on
the power.

Cause
The fuse has blown.
Wiring is incomplete.
The head is dirty.
The Dolby NR button is not
pressed.
Noise, etc., is causing the mi-
croprocessor to malfunction.
BRIGHT (brightness) adjust-
ment is not appropriate.
Poor usage conditions
COLOR (tone of color) and
HUE are not adjusted appro-
priately.
There is already a compact disc
inside the disc insertion slot.
The operation panel is not
set to the maximum angle.
The compact disc is dirty.
The compact disc is severely
scratched or warped.
When the car is parked in a
humid place, dew might form
on the internal lens.
Measure
Replace the fuse with one of the same rating.
If the fuse blows again, contact the store
where you purchased the unit.
See "Installation/Wire Connection Guide (es-
pecially, Section 6. Wire Connections)" of this
manual and connect properly.
Use a cleaning tape, etc. to clean the head.
Turn the Dolby NR button on when listening to
tapes recorded with the Dolby NR system.
Press the reset button with the tip of a very
fine instrument for about 2 seconds.
Select the CONFIGURATION display and ad-
just the BRIGHT (brightness) properly.
The temperature in the car may be below 32°F
(0°C) or above 140°F (60°C). Check the dis-
play again when the internal temperature is
between 32°F (0°C) to 140°F (60°C).
Select the CONFIGURATION display and ad-
just the color and hue density using the COL-
OR and HUE controls.
This may be caused by interference from other
cars, trains, high voltage lines, neon lights, etc.
Check again in another place.
Eject the compact disc and then insert another
one.
Press CD (eject) button 3 or set the operation
panel to the maximum angle.
Wipe the compact disc with a soft cloth.
Replace the compact disc with one that is in
good condition.
Turn the unit on and wait for about 1 hour be-
fore operating.
