4.10 Assessment and replacement of Electric Element AK1850

The failure of the electric element will be noted by the lack of room heating power when operating
the Heater in the electric mode. This can indicate that the electric element is either not connected
correctly or faulty and no longer operates, PCB is faulty or no mains supply to the Heater.
To assess which of the faults occurred and to take the correct action, replacement if required, please
follow the steps outlined below.
! Ensure 230V supply is isolated before commencing work on the product.

Ensure 12 V DC
Ensure Heater's
power supply is
230V AC cable
switched on
is connected to

To remove and replace Room Heater casing refer to chapter 4.7.4
It is critical that the elements are correctly wired in their pairs alongside the overheat stat.
apply as illustrated below to ensure the connections from the elements to the PCB are not altered.
- ensure O/H Stat & electric element pairs

are marked as shown.

- replace the electric element by

hooking spring clips to heat exchanger
and clamping securely into the grooves
(see pic 3). Again, a flat-head
screwdriver will need to be used to
carry this out.

Use current clamp to
check current draw.
Ensure mains cable is
connected and 230V
are present
- use long nose pliers to

remove the cables.
Overheat Stat
- using existing or new colour code, push cables onto the

connections, ensuring the wires are correctly installed in their
respective pairs and locations.
- ensure the wiring from the furthest end passes under other
connections when routing towards the PCB (check pic 2) and
do not become snagged when refitting the cover.

Only measuring the current draw should be
- compare measured value with relevant reference
value in table above
- should the measured value be inconsistent with the
reference value, the element is faulty and requires
replacement
If no colour code exists,
- remove the spring clips by

prising them off with a flat-
head screwdriver.
