Applicability
S.M.A.R.T. Phone technology is available in a wide range of models. This manual applies to the
following S.M.A.R.T. Phones.
Model 256S
Rugged Weatherproof 12-Button S.M.A.R.T. Phone
The outdoor version of the Rugged Phone is constructed to withstand operator abuse and
environmental extremes.
Model 257S
Rugged Weatherproof Auto-dial/Ring-down S.M.A.R.T. Phone
The auto-dial/ring-down version of the Rugged Weatherproof S.M.A.R.T. Phone has no keypad.
The Model 257S S.M.A.R.T. Phone is shipped from the factory configured for use on a ring-
down circuit.
Suitability for Use
S.M.A.R.T. Phones are suitable for connection to the following types of telephone lines:
Direct Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)
Private Branch Exchange (PBX)
Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX)
Ring-down Circuit (Model 257S)
Connection may not be made to:
Pay phone extension
Shared service (party) lines

    • USE CAUTION when installing or modifying telephone lines. GAI-Tronics highly recommends that a telephone line surge suppressor be installed to guard against lightning strikes. Please consult Distributor Sales at 800-492-1212 if further information is required. Sealed fittings should be installed at all cable entry points to prevent liquids from entering the unit.

    2. Remove the four outermost screws from the front panel assembly. NOTE If the optional tamper-resistant screws are installed, a GAI-Tronics Model 233 Tamper-Resistant Screwdriver is required. 3. Carefully pull the enclosure apart until you feel a slight resistance on the left side of the enclosure.

Fish the free end of the half-modular telephone cord through the gland bushing. 10. Close the front panel and secure it by tightening the four outermost screws.

    Buyer’s sole and exclusive remedy, and the warranty period on any repaired or replacement equipment shall be one (1) year from the date the original equipment was shipped. In no event shall GAI-Tronics warranty obligations with respect to equipment exceed 100% of the total cost of the equipment supplied hereunder.
