Applicability
S.M.A.R.T. Phone technology is available in a wide range of models. This manual applies to the
following S.M.A.R.T. Phones.
Model 226S
Tough 12-Button S.M.A.R.T. Phone
A weather resistant, vandal-proof unit designed for use in remote areas under the most extreme
operating environments, equipped with a standard 12-button keypad.
Model 227S
Tough Auto-dial/Ring-down S.M.A.R.T. Phone
The auto-dial/ring-down version of the Tough S.M.A.R.T. Phone has no keypad. The Model
227S S.M.A.R.T. Phone is shipped from the factory configured for use on a ring-down circuit.
Suitability for Use
S.M.A.R.T. Phones are suitable for connection to the following types of telephone lines:
Direct Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)
Private Branch Exchange (PBX)
Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX)
Ring-down Circuit (Model 227S)
Connection may not be made to:
Pay phone extension
Shared service (party) lines

Please consult Distributor Sales at 800-492-1212 if further information is required. Sealed fittings should be installed at all cable entry points to prevent liquids from entering the unit.
  • Page 3 Installation Instructions 1. Use a GAI-Tronics Model 233 Tamper-Resistant Screwdriver to remove the eight tamper-resistant front panel screws. 2. Remove the front panel. You will find a 7-foot half-modular telephone cord attached to the terminal board.
