Important Guidelines for DIMM Installation
When installing DIMMs, you MUST follow these guidelines:
Use only 32-, 64-, 128-, 256-MB, or 512-MB Registered 100-MHz Error Checking and
Correcting (ECC) SDRAM DIMMs.
Registered DIMMs must be used.
DIMMs must have a 4-KHz refresh rate.
To optimize system performance, Compaq recommends using CAS latency = 2 (CL2)
DIMMs.
USE ONLY DIMMS THAT SUPPORT ERROR CHECKING AND
CORRECTING (ECC).
A DIMM can be installed one way only. Be sure to match the two key slots on the DIMM
with the tab on the DIMM socket. Push the DIMM down into the DIMM socket, ensuring
that it is fully inserted and properly seated.
To optimize system performance, Compaq recommends alternating the installation of
memory between the two groups of DIMM sockets. However, DIMMs do not have to be
installed in pairs.
When upgrading, do not exceed 4 GB total. Upgrades exceeding 4 GB will cause the
system to halt.
CAUTION: When handling a DIMM, be careful not to touch any of the contacts.
Doing so may damage the DIMM.
