    Air (or another gas) can be introduced into the low vacuum stage through the gas-ballast control.     You must ensure that the E2M28 or E2M30 pump is suitable for your application. If you have any doubts as to  the suitability of the pump for your application, refer to the Edwards guidelines on vacuum pump and vacuum system safety (refer to the Associated Publication at the end of the contents list at the front of this manual).

    When you operate the pump with the gas-ballast control open, there will be an increased rate of oil loss from the pump.     2.2, make sure that this is not due to your system design before you contact your supplier or Edwards for advice, In particular, the vapour pressure of all materials used in your vacuum system (including pump oil, refer to below) must be much lower than the specified ultimate vacuum of the pump.

    The pump may have overheated if it was misused, if it malfunctioned or if it was in a fire. Edwards Material Safety Data sheets for fluorinated materials used in the pump are available on request: contact your supplier or Edwards.

    PFPE-prepared EM pumps Introduction If you have ordered a PFPE-prepared EM pump, the pump will be supplied prepared for use with Edwards PFPE mechanical pump oils, such as Fomblin 06/6 and Krytox 1506. PFPE-prepared EM pumps are suitable for pumping high concentrations of oxygen.
