Chapter 4:
The FER785-MM Diode Laser Source is equipped with a 3.5 mm mono jack Remote
Safety Interlock connector located on the rear of the laser housing. See
Figure 4-1: FER785-MM Diode Laser Source Remote Safety Interlock Connector
The laser drive circuit will be enabled only when the terminals of the Interlock
Connector are short-circuited. This is typically achieved using one (or more) remotely
activated NORMALLY OPEN switches (i.e., open door indicators,) that are connected in
series. In order for the laser to be enabled, each door must be closed, which in turn
closes its corresponding switch. Only when all doors are closed and secure will the
circuit be closed, thus shorting the two Interlock Connector terminals.
When wired properly, if any one of the interlock switches is opened (i.e., a door is
opened,) the laser is then automatically disabled.
