telephone, an answering machine, or a
computer modem) is not connected

Troubleshooting
Thick or curled documents may not be sent in good quality, because of a
shadow or distortion caused when scanning such documents.
Press on the Document Cover with your hand when scanning.
If there is a poor line or connection, reducing the transmission start speed may
correct the error.
Reduce the transmission start speed. Refer to "TX start speed" in "Device
Settings" of the User's Guide on-screen manual.
Check that the telephone line is connected correctly. Refer to your setup sheet
or see "Preparing the Machine for Fax" on page 57.
Check the telephone line type setting and change it as necessary. See "Setting
the Telephone Line Type" on page 60.
Check that the telephone line and the telephone (or a peripheral device such as
an external telephone, an answering machine, or a computer modem) are
connected correctly.
