ID3 Tag Validator Application User Manual
Metadata for HTTP Live Streaming." Each Nielsen ID3 tag spans two transport packets; each Nielsen ID3 tag is
encapsulated in a single metadata PES packet. See "Related Documents" on page 7.
MPEG-DASH
"DASH is an adaptive bitrate streaming technology where a multimedia file is partitioned into one or more segments
and delivered to a client using HTTP." (Source: "Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP." Wikipedia. Accessed
1017-04-04. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_Adaptive_Streaming_over_HTTP)
MPD
MPEG-DASH Media Presentation Description. "A media presentation description (MPD) describes segment
information (timing, URL, media characteristics like video resolution and bit rates), and can be organized in different
ways such as SegmentList, SegmentTemplate, SegmentBase and SegmentTimeline, depending on the use case.[9]
Segments can contain any media data, however the specification provides specific guidance and formats for use with
two types of containers: ISO base media file format (e.g. MP4 file format) or MPEG-2 Transport Stream." (Source:
"Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP." Wikipedia. Accessed 1017-04-04.

N
Nielsen ID3 tag
A specialized ID3 tag, comprised of a single PRIVATE data frame that is used to transmit Nielsen watermark
information to Nielsen crediting systems downstream for measuring audience viewing on browsers and mobile
devices.
P
PAT (Program Association Table)
A component of an MPEG-2 transport stream that assigns a Packet ID (PID) to each program in the transport stream.
After reading the PAT, a transport-stream decoder can use the program PID to access the program map table (PMT)
for that program.
PC code (Program Content code)
Code that identifies the distribution sources for the program content before final distribution. Video content can pass
through many distribution sources, as when a national broadcast network distributes content to all of its affiliates,
before final distribution. Broadcast networks, syndicators, and television studios may each add a PC code to show
their place in the distribution chain.
PC offset (seconds since PC day-start)
The PC offset identifies the number of seconds that separate the most recent valid PC EDU in the current tag from
the PC CID timestamp of the tag. The sum of the PC CID timestamp and the PC Offset should be within 15 seconds
of the most recent PC EDU in the current ID3 tag. In the _tags.txt file, the FD offset is labeled "Seconds Since PC
Day-Start."
PES (Packetized Elementary Stream)
Audio, video, and metadata streams are carried within MPEG-2 transport (and HLS) streams in a sequence of
transport packets. The transport packets can be sorted by PID (packet ID) into individual audio, video, and metadata
streams. Each of these individual elementary streams is referred to as a PES. Nielsen ID3 tags are carried in a
metadata PES.
