Do you want to create Fault Sets? See the requirements in "Fault Sets".
l
You can implement VxFlex OS on bare metal Linux servers in the following
configurations:
Converged - the MDM, SDS, SDC, and LIA components are installed on the host.
l
2-layer - the MDM, SDS, and LIA components are installed on the host. After
l
deployment, manually install the SDC component on application nodes that
consume VxFlex OS storage. This is the default architecture.
In the Linux VxFlex OS converged environment, the MDM, SDS, and SDC components
are all installed on the host.
The LUNs can be formatted with the operating system-supported file system, and
then exposed using mount points to the OS, or they can be used as raw devices. When
the LUNs are used as raw devices, the file system layer is omitted.
If multiple nodes are accessing the same device a cluster file system solution must be
implemented on the client side.
SDS device management
Devices are managed in the following way:
Direct I/O
l
Device management is performed on the host directly, yielding the best I/O
performance. Devices are added to the system after the deployment. On factory-
installed VxFlex Ready Node servers, the AMS configures the optimal device
configuration on the Linux servers and adds devices to the system.
Deployment considerations
Take the following into account:
Pre-deployment
l
Are there flash devices that will be added to the SDS?
n
Do you want to create Fault Sets? See the requirements in the "Fault sets"
n
section.
Post-deployment
l
After deployment is complete, AMS sets all VxFlex OS processes to start
n
automatically with boot of the nodes. Do not set change the settings unless
instructed by VxFlex OS guidelines.
In the Linux 2-layer architecture, the MDM and SDS components are all installed on
the host. The SDC component is manually installed on the compute node that
consumes VxFlex OS storage. This is the default implementation architecture.
The LUNs can be either formatted with the compute operating system-supported file
system, and then exposed using mount points to the operating system, or can be used
as raw devices. When the LUNs are used as raw devices, the file system layer is
omitted.
If multiple nodes are accessing the same device a cluster file system solution must be
implemented on the client side.
