d. Click the faulty disk, and from the Physical Drive Properties section,
validate the following:
The faulty disk's state can be either Failed, if the RAID controller has

failed it, or Online (Unused), if VxFlex OS has failed it because of too
many I/O failures.
The slot number matches the number previously identified.

2. If the disk is an SSD or NVMe SSD, determine its use:
a. Find the disk's designation in the Cache row, underneath the disk:
RFC - used for RFcache caching
l
DC - used for DAS Cache caching (SSD devices only, in 13G PowerEdge

servers)
Blank - used for fast storage (or, if it is orange, may be unused)
l
The disk usage is now determined: storage or caching.

Removing a caching device
About this task
This procedure describes how to remove an SSD or NVMe SSD device that is being
used to provide caching for acceleration. The caching mode can be Read Flash Cache
or DAS Cache (SSD devices, 13G servers only).
Procedure
1. Remove the faulty disk from the VxFlex Ready Node system:
a. From the VxFlex OS GUI Hardware view, right-click the faulty disk and
choose Remove Acceleration Drive.
Note:
If you remove a DAS Cache caching device and there is another
caching device in the same node, both of them should appear in the
Remove Cache Device dialog box. All DAS Cache devices displayed will
be removed. Later, when adding a replacement SSD device, add all DAS
Cache devices together (up to two DAS Cache devices are supported).
b. In the Remove Cache Device dialog box, click OK.
This may result in a rebuild/rebalance cycle. Use the VxFlex OS GUI
Dashboard view to ensure that the cycle is completed before continuing.
The disk is removed from the VxFlex Ready Node system.
2. Remove the HDD devices that were cached by the faulty device:
a. From the Backend > Storage view, select all the HDDs that show errors,
right-click them, and choose Remove.
This removes the disks from the Storage Pool.
b. In the dialog box, click OK.
c. If a rebuild or rebalance begins, wait for it to finish.
