5. Handling
5.1 Previous preparations
•
Choose the appropriate hardness tester. The model Proceq ZHT 2093
equipped with rubber guiding wheels protects soft surfaces against
scratching and facilitates assessment.
•
Choose the correct pressure spring according to the estimated
hardness range by means of the colour code.

If necessary, change the pressure spring in accordance with
chapter 4 "Changing the pressure springs" on page 9.
•
Check if the tip is free of dirt, if necessary clean it in accordance with
chapter 7 "Cleaning" on page 17.
5.2 Hardness tests
•
Carry out the necessary preparations in accordance with chapter 5.1
"Previous preparations" on page 10.
•
Adjust the spring tension by fixing the slide with the clamping screw.
•
Place the hardness tester with the tip vertically on the surface, press
the instrument against the spring tension.

When using Proceq ZHT 2093 you need to take care that the
rubber guiding wheels are parallel to the testing direction.
•
Scribe a straight line of approx. 10 mm (0.39 inch) within 1 second.

For scribing you can either draw or push the hardness tester.
•
Repeat this procedure with different spring tensions until the test
surface shows a visible scratch.
