TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS

ENGINE

ENGINE WILL NOT START

Possible Cause
Fuel valve OFF.
Choke OPEN.
Engine switch OFF.
Out of fuel.
Bad fuel, tiller stored without treating
or draining gasoline, or refueled with
bad gasoline.
Spark plug faulty, fouled, or
improperly gapped.
Spark plug wet with fuel (flooded
engine).
Fuel filter clogged, carburetor
malfunction, ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.
Correction
Move valve ON.
Move to CLOSED unless engine is
warm.
Push engine switch to ON.
Refuel (p. 39).
Drain fuel tank and carburetor (p. 59).
Refuel with fresh gasoline (p. 39).
Clean gap or replace spark plug
(p. 47).
Dry and reinstall spark plug. Start
engine with throttle lever in FAST
position and the choke open.
Take the tiller to your servicing dealer,
or refer to the shop manual.
