2.9 Illumination

You can use the Leica Z6 APO A and Z16 APO A
zoom systems with various illuminators. Ask your
Leica consultant about our wide selection. The
coaxial illuminator with quarter-wave plate for the
Leica Z6 APO A and the Z16 APO A was specially
developed for use with fiber-optic light guides and
cold-light sources (diagram 1, see p. 10). Coaxial
illumination makes the surface of flat, highly
reflective wafers and metal sections visible. The
revolving quarter-wave plate highlights various
structures of metal sections and LCDs.
Insert the coaxial incident light housing with
dovetail ring into the zoom system and
tighten the hexagon-head screw.
The coaxial incident light housing can be fas-
tened to the AS, A and Y tube using three
hexagon-head screws.
Outfit zoom system with objective (see p. 11).
Attach the quarter-wave plate to the objective
using the clamping screw.
Connect the fiber-optic light guide and the cold
light source.
By turning the quarter-wave plate on the
knurled ring, you can make various structures and
switching positions of LCDs visible.
