VESDA Sensepoint XCL – Large Bore Installation Manual

2.12 Installation Practices

1. Ensure arrow on VESDA Sensepoint XCL Flow Cap is aligned to pipe flow.
2. Install in-line components (particulate filter / water trap) upstream VESDA Sensepoint XCL. With water
trap installation, ensure to slope installation pipe toward water trap.
3. Ensure 0.5m (1.65ft) linear pipe length to ASD inlet when mounting VESDA Sensepoint XCL close to
ASD.
4. Follow the below practices for the flow monitoring of VESDA Sensepoint XCL upstream holes:
a. Do not allocate sample holes downstream VESDA Sensepoint XCL (recommended).
b. If downstream sample holes are required, ASD flow fault threshold is set to the difference in flow
values of the following ASPIRE design scenarios (i) & (ii):
i. Upstream sample holes open, i.e. Pipe flow = 50L/min (ASD flow normalized 100%)
ii. Upstream sample holes blocked (2 sample holes), i.e. Pipe flow = 40L/min
ASD Low Flow Fault threshold = 80% (Difference between pipe flow, 50 - 40 = 10L/min, 20% flow loss).
Notes:
VESDA Sensepoint XCL impedance is approximated with x3 ECO detectors in ASPIRE
l
designs.
Where VESDA Sensepoint XCL is sampling sticky gases i.e. NO
l
from VESDA Sensepoint XCL detector to last sampling hole is:
PVC pipes: ≤ 40m
CPVC and ABS pipes: ≤ 20m

2.13 Setting Alarm Thresholds

The VESDA Sensepoint XCL – Large Bore gas detector provides multiple hole (multi-point) gas sampling.
Setting the appropriate detector alarm level will depend on the following parameters:
1. Target gas concentration
2. Number of sample holes upstream the detector
3. Flow contribution of upstream holes
4. Detector lowest alarm level
Refer to Application Note (Doc. No. 35616) and Calculator (Doc. No. 35758) for guideline to set VESDA
Sensepoint XCL – Large Bore gas detectors alarm levels.
