11 Installing the Perimeter Wire

11.4 Measuring Wire Clearances at Corners

In tapered corners (< 90°) the perimeter wire should be
installed as shown. The two angles must be at least one
length of the iMow ruler (a = 13 in. (33 cm)) apart so that the
robot mower can drive down the edge.

11.5 Routing the Perimeter Wire in Confined Areas

The robotic mower can travel automatically though narrow
passages, provided the minimum wire clearances are
maintained.
► If you route the wire between obstacles higher than 0.4 in.
(1 cm), e.g. walls or hedges, keep a minimum wire
clearance of one length of the iMow ruler (b = 13 in.
(33 cm)).
► If you route the wire between obstacles lower than 0.4 in.
(1 cm), e.g. paths or patios, keep a minimum wire
clearance of c = 21.3 in. (54 cm).

► Route the perimeter wire to block off narrower areas in
which a < 47.2 in. (120 cm).
► If you route the perimeter wire in a confined area,
deactivate the passage function (offset drive home),
@ 15.3 or install a search loop, @ 11.9.

11.6 Routing Around Restricted Areas

A restricted area is an area that the robotic mower must
avoid, including obstacles that cannot be mowed or objects
that the mower can't bump off of to change direction, such
as flower beds, trees with buttressed roots, etc.
► Install a restricted area around such obstacles.
► To ensure a robust operation, install restricted areas in a
round shape - no oval, angular or inwardly curved shapes.
► Maintain the wire clearance a = 13 in. (33 cm) around the
obstacle (2) to prevent the robotic mower from scraping
against the obstacle (2).
► Install the perimeter wire (1) with the aid of the
iMow Ruler (3) as illustrated.
► The diameter of any restricted area must be at least 26 in.
(66 cm) and no more than 9.8 ft. (3 m).
