4. Tighten the lock down screws located on the left and right side of the LS-AFM stage.

A.6 First Alignment of the Light Lever
This procedure assumes that the light lever was cor-
rectly aligned at the factory or by an authorized agent.
1. Place a sample in the sample holder, and
slide the sample holder under the light lever.
2. Place the probe holder in the light lever sen-
sor with a contact or vibrating mode probe
installed.
3. Adjust the optical microscope until the probe/
substrate can be viewed on screen.
4. Center the laser and detector translation
mechanisms with thumb screws.
5. Turn on the laser.
6. Use a flathead screwdriver to rotate the mirror
until the laser spot is on the back side of the
cantilever.
