turn on and off.
& Starting engine
WARNING
. Never start the engine from out-
side the vehicle. It may result in
an unexpected accident.
. If the engine is stopped during
driving, the catalyst may over-
heat and burn.
. Do not leave the engine running
in locations with poor ventilation,
such as a garage and indoors.
The exhaust gas may enter the
vehicle or indoors, and it may
result in carbon monoxide poi-
soning.
. If the indicator on the push-
button ignition switch flashes in
green after the engine has
started, never drive the vehicle.
The steering is still locked, and it
may result in an unexpected
accident.
CAUTION
. When the indicator on the push-
button ignition switch is flashing
in orange, there may be a mal-
function with the vehicle. We
recommend that you contact a
SUBARU dealer immediately.
. If the indicator on the push-
button ignition switch is flashing
in green after the engine has
started, it means that the steering
is still locked. While moving the
steering wheel right and left,
depress the brake pedal, and
press the push-button ignition
switch.
. When starting the engine, be sure
to sit in the driver's seat.
. Do not continue pushing the
push-button ignition switch for
more than 10 seconds. Doing so
could cause a malfunction. If the
engine does not start, stop push-
ing the push-button ignition
switch and turn off the engine.
Wait 10 seconds, and then push
the push-button ignition switch
to start the engine.
. After the engine starts, the en-
gine speed will be kept high until
the engine coolant temperature
indicator is halfway between H
and L.
Starting and operating
. If the battery is discharged, the
steering cannot be unlocked.
Charge the battery.
. After the battery is discharged
and replaced, it may require
initialization of the steering lock
system to start the engine. In
such a case, initialize the steer-
ing lock.*
*Initialization of steering lock
Switch the power to "OFF". Open
and close, or close and open the
driver's door, and wait for ap-
proximately 10 seconds. When
the steering is locked, the initi-
alization is completed.
NOTE
. When the push-button ignition
switch is pressed while depressing
the clutch pedal (MT vehicles) or the
brake pedal (AT vehicles), the engine
starter operates for a maximum of 10
seconds and after starting the engine,
the starter stops automatically.
. In the 2.5-liter non-turbo models and
3.0-liter models, when the accelerator
is depressed while the vehicle is
stopped, the engine speed does not
increase to high rpm.
. Avoid rapid racing and rapid accel-
