Zero position
The measured distance value is relative to the set zero point position. By default, the zero posi-
tion of the sensor coincides with the sensor front and can be set to any value between 0 and the
maximum measurement distance of the sensor. The distance value and the switching point po-
sitions are calculated relative to the zero position. The function allows tolerance measurements
for quality testing, for example.
Example 1:
Physical distance to the object to be measured: 150 mm
n
Set zero position: 0 mm (default setting)
n
Output measured value: 150 mm.

Example 2:
Physical distance to the object to be measured: 150 mm
n
Set zero position: 150 mm
n
Output measured value: 50 mm.

Measurement range
With the Measurement range function, the limits of the measurement range can be set so that
the active measurement range is limited to a partial range of the maximum measurement range
of the sensor. The purpose of this function is to eliminated interfering reflections (e.g. if there is
a pane of glass between the sensor and the object to be measured).
The Near limit of the measurement range must be larger than the minimum limitation of the
n
sensor (Sdc).
The Far limit of the measurement range must be smaller than the maximum limitation of the
n
sensor (Sde).
The alarm output is activated as soon as no object to be measured is located within the config-
ured measurement range or the signal quality is insufficient.
