Trimming hedges
I
Assume a secure posture and always use both hands to hold the
unit at the handles. No animals or other persons are to be in the
work area.
I
Always route the extension cord away to the rear.
Shaping
The hedge should be trimmed to achieve
a trapezoidal form, that is, it should widen
toward the bottom on both sides. This
improves the penetration of light to the
lower extremities. A general guideline is:
Approx. 10 cm slant for each 1 meter of
bush height.
The top of the shrub can also be given a
rounded or column-shape.
Cutting sequence
First cut both sides, starting at the bottom
and working to the top; this prevents
cuttings from falling into the area where
you are still working.
Then trim the top: Where the branches have
grown extremely long, cut back the hedge in
several stages.
Benefit: Short cuttings are better suited for
composting.
Optimum trimming times
Hedges with green leaves are best trimmed
in June and October, evergreens in April
and August, while conifers and other fast-
growing shrubs should be trimmed about
every six weeks from May onward.
General information
When older hedges are to be cut back a substantial amount, use pruning
shears to trim thicker branches to the desired length before starting work with
the hedge trimmer. To shape precisely, run a taught line between the extreme
edges of the hedge and then trim along it. Ensure that the blade does not
come into contact with any objects made of hard material that could damage
it, such as fencing wire or metallic plant supports.

Care and Maintenance

I
Always disconnect the plug from the power socket before carrying
out any work on the appliance.
I
Never use water to clean or spray off the unit.
Store the unit in a dry place.
I
Inspect your hedge trimmer before each use.
It is essential that any damage to the blade rail be professionally repaired
before the unit is used.
Only use extension cords in good condition to connect your hedge trimmer.
The blade rail should be cleaned and treated with maintenance spray
(accessories) after each use.
When a job lasts for a longer period of time, we recommend that the blade rail
also be treated with maintenance spray at regular intervals during operation.
We recommend the storage sheath (accessories) for storage and transport.
The storage sheath can be secured to the wall with two screws.
Always keep the ventilation slots unobstructed and clean.
If the machine should happen to fail despite the care taken in manufacture and
testing, repair should be carried out by an authorised customer services agent
for BOSCH power tools. For all correspondence and spare parts orders,
always include the 10 digit order number of the machine!
WARNING
Important instructions for connecting a new 3-pin plug to the 2 wire cable.
The wires in the cable are coloured according to the following code:
Do not connect the blue or
brown wire to the earth termi-
nal of the plug.
Important: If for any reason
the plug is cut off of the cable
of this machine, it must be disposed of safely and not left unattended.
