UPPORTED XTERNAL
The following external devices are supported by the RSDetection:

Vaisala Meteorological Station (P/N WXT520)

FTDI Serial to USB adapters (US232R-xx). To use this type of adapter a Virtual COM port
(VCP) driver must be installed on your PC.
8.4.1

FTDI VCP Driver Download and Install Procedures

1) Click on the PC Start menu, Right-Click on Computer or My Computer and select
Properties. Under System, note the System type. This will either be 32-bit OS or 64-bit
OS. Remember this for step 3.
2) Go to the FTDI website for driver download.
3) Select the OS type for Windows noted in step 1. Save and extract the zip file to a known
location on your PC.
4) Connect the USB end of the FTDI serial cable to your computer. Make sure the power to
the RS Detection is on and proper cable is connected to the FTDI adapter.
5) Click on the PC Start menu, Right-Click on Computer or My Computer and select
Properties. Go to Device Manager on the left-hand margin.
6) From the Device Manager go down to "Other devices". Right-click on "FT232R USB
UART" and select "Update Driver Software".
7) Select Browse my computer for driver software and browse to the directory location
the zip file was extracted to in step 3. Select the top level directory. Click ok.
8) Windows should then finish the driver installation for the USB Serial Converter. Click
Close on the status window.
9) Repeat steps 6 through 9 in the Device Manager with remaining "US232R" and/or "USB
Serial Port" instead of "FT232R USB UART" that are showing warnings like in the figure
below.
