3.4.1 Constant ranges for GST

The value of Constant A (H4) may be set in the range 0.80 to 1.00 in
increments of 0.01.
The value of Constant B (H5) may be set in the range 0 to 1000 in
increments of 1.
The value of Constant C (H6) may be set in the range 2.060 to 2.120 in
increments of 0.001.
The value of Constant D (H7) may be set in the range 2.370 to 2.430 in
increments of 0.001.

3.4.2 Explanation of Constants

Constants A (H4) and B (H5) control the ability of the GST system to make
accurate measurements on the range of products actually rolled by the user.
These constants cannot be manually optimised individually in an intuitive way.
Optimisation of constants A (H4) and B (H5) is undertaken via the GST surface
reference probe and the APCOS PC software optimisation procedure described in
the GST User Guide.
Once a representative measurement data set for every product type rolled by
the user has been entered into the PC, the Land-supplied software actually
calculates the optimised constants A (H4) and B (H5) and uploads them to the
LMG GS.
Constants C (H6) and D (H7) are thermometer-specific constants. The values
required to be manually input by the user for constants C (H6) and D (H7)
differ for every thermometer and may be found on the 'Type' label attached to
the rear of the thermometer.
NOTE
It is recommended that the H6 and H7values are noted, together with
the instrument serial number in the User Guide for the particular
thermometer head.
