BCS Serial Control Protocol

AutoPatch has developed a command language, BCS (Basic Control Structure), for

operating the system through an external device and for diagnosing problems. The

Precis

uses a subset of this language for switching, disconnecting, and verifying

status of commands. BCS command lines are entered into a terminal emulation

program (e.g., Windows HyperTerminal) from an external control device which

sends commands to the system. Control devices must be able to send and receive

ASCII code via an RS-232 port. For more information on external control devices,

see page 14.

Command lines are not case sensitive.

All command lines must end with the Take command "T" which tells the system

to execute the command.

Command lines cannot be edited. If you make a mistake, enter an "X" and then

reenter the command.

Entering "X" at any point in the command line cancels a command. A command

cannot be canceled after the "T" has been entered.

If the level "L" designation is omitted, the command is performed on the default

level which is Level 0 for Precis

To designate multiple inputs or outputs, enter a space between each number.

Only disconnect commands accept multiple inputs; however, you cannot enter

multiple inputs and multiple outputs in the same command line.

When verifying signal status, if a signal is only routed on one level, checking the

status on both levels will show the signal as not routed.
