2.7 Laboratory and working materials

DANGER
Hazardous substances could be discharged at
the outlet.
During aspiration, hazardous, toxic substances at the
outlet can get into the ambient air.
Observe the relevant safety regulations for safe han-
Ø
dling of hazardous substances.
Please note that residual process media may pose a
Ø
danger to people and the environment.
Install and use suitable separators, filters or extrac-
Ø
tion devices.
Hazards due to different substances
Pumping different substances or media can cause the sub-
stances to react with one another.
Working materials which get into the vacuum pump with the gas
flow can damage the vacuum pump. Hazardous substances can
be deposited in the vacuum pump.
Possible protective measures
ð Purge the vacuum pump with inert gas or air before chang-
ing the medium to be pumped.
ð Use inert gas to dilute critical mixtures.
ð Prevent the release of hazardous, toxic, explosive, corro-
sive fluids, gases or vapors or those that are harmful to
health or the environment, for example, through suitable
laboratory facilities with a fume hood and ventilation control.
ð Protect the inside of the vacuum pump from deposits or
moisture, e. g, through the provision of a gas ballast.
ð Be aware of interactions and possible chemical reactions of
the pumped media.
ð Check the compatibility of the pumped substances with the
wetted materials of the pumping unit.
ð Contact us if you have concerns about using your vacuum
pump with certain working materials or media.
