Device description

General application
The boards of the ibaFOB-D family are communication boards with ibaNet fiber optic
links. The boards use the DMA technology (DMA = Direct Memory Access) for data trans-
fer between board and computer. The mechanical design complies with standard PCI
slots or PCI Express slots respectively.
The boards are the successor boards for the board models of the ibaFOB-S and ibaFOB-
X families and are made to replace these former models completely.
The boards can be used to connect iba peripheral devices such as ibaPADU analog-
digital-converters, ibaNet750 devices, ibaLink signal modules and ibaBM bus monitors
to a standard or industrial PC. The boards can also be used for connecting an iba-system
to automation devices of other manufacturers, e. g. ABB AC 800PEC or SIMATIC TDC-
interface boards LO5/LO6.
The boards have different numbers of fiber optic inputs which can be operated in different
communication modes depending on the connected devices.
The boards cover all current and former ibaNet communication protocols and thus can
be used for processing of data from an old ibaPADU device (S/N <1000) and an ABB
800PEC high performance controller or a SIMATIC TDC LO6 board as well. Furthermore,
the 5Mbit transmission mode is supported which enables the boards to be used for meas-
uring fast signals (25 kHz) from an ibaPADU-8-ICP, ibaPADU-8-M or -16-M.

Device properties
Full compliant PCI V2.2 board, supporting both 3.3 V and 5 V signal levels and sup-
porting both 33 MHz and 66 MHz PCI bus clock speed
PCI Express board: PCIe 1.0-x1 compatible slot (PCIe-x1, x4, x8, x16)
Measurement data is written/read directly to/from PC memory without CPU inter-
vention (PCI Bus Master DMA). This is a significant relief for the CPU load while
data traffic is boosted.
Independent fiber optic input channels
All currently existing ibaNet link protocols are supported:
2Mbit (for ibaPADU devices with S/N < 1000)
3Mbit
5Mbit
32Mbit
32Mbit Flex
4 LEDs for each input channel indicating operational status, link status, data trans-
mission rate and error
7-segment display for board-ID and indication of sync master board
Expansion connector (white) for ibaFOB-4o-D module to mirror the inputs
Expansion connector (black) for ibaFOB-4o-D to transmit analog and digital output
signals. Possible applications: ibaLogic outputs or ibaPDA alarms and ibaPADU-8-
M/-ICP bidirectional connection
No jumpers or DIL switches, all parameters are software controlled
Interrupt synchronization cable to connect multiple iba boards in one PC
Firmware upgrade without uninstalling the board
