responsible for maintaining a safe distance to
the vehicle in front, for vehicle speed, for braking
in good time and for staying in lane.
You are warned by vibration pulses in the steer‐
ing wheel in the following circumstances:
Lane Keeping Assist detects lane markings.
R
A front wheel passes over the lane markings.
R
Whether a warning is issued and when this
occurs also depends on the selected sensitivity
setting (standard or adaptive).
System limits
The system may be impaired or may not function
in the following situations:
If there is poor visibility, e.g. due to insuffi‐
R
cient illumination of the road, if there are
highly variable shade conditions or in rain,
snow, fog or heavy spray.
If there is glare, e.g. from oncoming traffic,
R
the sun or reflections.
If the windshield in the area of the multifunc‐
R
tion camera is dirty, or if the camera is fog‐
ged up, damaged or covered.
If there are no lane markings, or several
R
unclear lane markings are present for one
lane, e.g. around roadworks.
If the lane markings are worn, dark or cov‐
R
ered.
If the distance to the vehicle in front is too
R
short and thus the lane markings cannot be
detected.
If the lane markings change quickly, e.g.
R
lanes branch off, cross one another or
merge.
If the road is very narrow and winding.
R
Sensitivity of Lane Keeping Assist
With the Standard or Adaptive setting, you can
influence when the warning vibration of Lane
Keeping Assist takes place.
In both the Standard and Adaptive settings, no
warning vibration occurs in the following situa‐
tions:
You have switched on the turn signal indica‐
R
tor.
A driving safety system intervenes, such as
R
ABS, BAS or ESP
®
.

In the Adaptive setting, there will also be no
warning vibration in the following situations:
The vehicle is accelerated or braked consid‐
R
erably.
You steer actively, e.g. swerve to avoid an
R
obstacle or change lane quickly.
You cut the corner on a sharp bend.

Vehicle towing instructions

The vehicle is not suitable for the use of tow bar
systems that are used for flat towing or dinghy
towing, for example. Attaching and using tow bar
systems can lead to damage on the vehicle.
When you are towing a vehicle with tow bar sys‐
tems, safe driving characteristics cannot be
guaranteed for the towing vehicle or the towed
vehicle. The vehicle-trailer combination may
swerve from side to side. Comply with the per‐
mitted towing methods (
page 286) and the
/
instructions for towing with both axles on the
ground (
page 286).
