direction, a warning tone sounds once and the
warning lamp in the exterior mirror flashes red. If
the turn signal indicator remains switched on, all
other detected vehicles are indicated only by the
flashing of the red warning lamp.
If you overtake a vehicle quickly, no warning is
given.
& WARNING Risk of accident despite Blind
Spot Assist
Blind Spot Assist does not react to vehicles
approaching and overtaking you at a greatly
different speed.
Blind Spot Assist cannot warn drivers in this
situation.
Always pay careful attention to the traf‐
#
fic situation and maintain a safe dis‐
tance at the side of the vehicle.
Blind Spot Assist is only an aid. It may fail to
detect some vehicles and is not a substitute for
attentive driving. Always ensure that there is suf‐
ficient distance to the side for other road users
and obstacles.
System limits
The system may be limited in the following situa‐
tions:
The sensors are dirty or covered.
R
Poor visibility, e.g. due to fog, heavy rain,
R
snow or spray.
Narrow vehicles, e.g. bicycles, are within the
R
monitoring range.
If the lanes are very narrow or very wide,
R
especially if vehicles are not driving in the
middle of their lane.
Warnings may be issued in error when driving
close to crash barriers or similar continuous lane
borders. Warnings may be interrupted when driv‐
ing alongside long vehicles, for example trucks,
for a prolonged time.
Blind Spot Assist is not operational when reverse
gear is engaged.

Lane Keeping Assist
Function of Lane Keeping Assist
Lane Keeping Assist monitors the area in front of
your vehicle by means of multifunction camera
(
page 120). It serves to protect you against
/
unintentionally leaving your lane. You will be
warned by means of a vibration in the steering
wheel.
Lane Keeping Assist is available in the speed
range between 40 mph (60 km/h) and 120 mph
(200 km/h).
Lane Keeping Assist can neither reduce the risk
of an accident if you fail to adapt your driving
style nor override the laws of physics. It cannot
take into account road, weather or traffic condi‐
tions. Lane Keeping Assist is only an aid. You are
