Performing the checkout procedure

To perform the checkout procedure, complete the following steps:
1. Is the server part of a cluster?

3. Did a single beep sound and are there readable instructions on the main menu?

v No: Go to step 2.
v Yes: Shut down all failing servers that are related to the cluster. Go to step 2.
a. Check the power supply LEDs, see "Power-supply LEDs" on page 53
b. Turn off the server and all external devices.
c. Check all internal and external devices for compatibility at
http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/.
d. Check all cables and power cords.
e. Set all monitor controls to the middle positions.
f. Turn on all external devices.
g. Turn on the server. If the server does not start, see "Troubleshooting tables"
on page 37.
h. Check the system-error LED on the operator information panel. If it is
flashing, check the light path diagnostic LEDs on the system board (see
"System-board LEDs" on page 17).
i. Check for the following results:
v Successful completion of POST, which is indicated by a single beep (see
"POST" on page 19 for more information)
v Successful completion of startup, which is indicated by a readable display
of the operating-system desktop
Note: A single beep indicates successful completion of POST and is not an
error.
v No: Find the failure symptom in "Troubleshooting tables", if necessary, see
"Solving undetermined problems" on page 89.
v Yes: Run the diagnostic programs (see "Running the diagnostic programs" on
page 55).
– If you receive an error, see "Diagnostic error codes" on page 56).
– If the diagnostic programs were completed successfully and you still
suspect a problem, see "Solving undetermined problems" on page 89.
Important: Clear the BMC system event log and system event/error log after
you correct all conditions. This will turn off the system event/error LED if all
conditions are corrected.
