Applies only to vehicles with a heat shield in front of the expansion
valve.
– Unscrew nut -1- (4.5 Nm) and bolt -4- (2.5 Nm).
– Release clips -2-, and remove heat shield -3-.

Coolant circuit must be bled after it is opened ⇒ Rep. gr. 19 ;

When the engine is warm, the cooling system is under pres‐

sure. If necessary, release pressure before carrying out re‐
pairs.
– Place drip tray - VAS 6208- beneath engine.
– Drain coolant circuit ⇒ Rep. gr. 19 ; Cooling system/coolant;
Draining cooling system .
– Mark coolant hoses -1- to heater and air conditioning unit.
CAUTION
On a warm engine, the cooling system is under high pressure.
Danger of scalding by steam and hot coolant.
Skin and other parts of the body may be scalded.
– Wear protective gloves.
– Wear protective goggles.
– Reduce excess pressure by covering cap of coolant expan‐
sion tank with cloths and opening it carefully.
– Clamp off coolant hoses to heat exchanger -1- of heater and
air conditioning unit (e.g. with hose clamps, up to 25 mm in
diameter - 3094- ) and disconnect.
