12. T i r e r e p a i r
W h e t h e r it is t h e front tire or t h e rear tire t h a t y o u w i s h
to c h a n g e , t h e p r o c e d u r e of tire a n d t u b e r e m o v a l is
i d e n t i c a l .
C o n s i d e r t h e e x p l a n a t i o n t h a t f o l l o w s as the p r o p e r
m e t h o d for b o t h w h e e l s .
First, r e m o v e t h e v a l v e c a p a n d v a l v e s t e m lock nut.
E m p t y all t h e air o u t of t h e tire. U s e t w o tire r e m o v a l
irons ( w i t h r o u n d e d e d g e s ) a n d b e g i n to w o r k the tire
b r e a d o v e r t h e e d g e of t h e r i m , s t a r t i n g 1 8 0 ° o p p o s i t e
the t u b e s t e m . T a k e c a r e to a v o i d p i n c h i n g the t u b e
a s y o u d o this. A f t e r y o u h a v e w o r k e d o n e s i d e of t h e
tire c o m p l e t e l y off t h e r i m , t h e n y o u c a n s l i p the t u b e
out. B e v e r y c a r e f u l not to d a m a g e t h e s t e m w h i l e
p u s h i n g it b a c k out to t h e rim h o l e . If y o u are
c h a n g i n g t h e tire itself, t h e n finish t h e r e m o v a l by
w o r k i n g t h e tire off t h e s a m e rim e d g e j u s t p r e v i o u s l y
m e n t i o n e d .
R e i n s t a l l i n g t h e tire a s s e m b l y c a n b e a c c o m p l i s h e d by
r e v e r s i n g t h e d i s a s s e m b l y p r o c e d u r e . T h e o n l y
d i f f e r e n c e in p r o c e d u r e w o u l d be right after t h e t u b e
h a s b e e n i n s t a l l e d , but b e f o r e t h e tire h a s b e e n
c o m p l e t e l y s l i p p e d o n t o t h e r i m , inflate t h e t u b e . T h i s
r e m o v e s a n y c r e a s e s t h a t m i g h t exist. R e l e a s e the air
a n d c o n t i n u e w i t h r e a s s e m b l y . A l s o , right after t h e
