Removing and Installing
the Rewind Starter
– Remove the shroud - see 5.1.
 Take screws (arrows) out of
rewind starter.
– Lift away the rewind starter.
Reassemble in the reverse
sequence.

Starter Cup

– Remove the shroud - see 5.1.
 Remove the spark plug and fit the
locking screw 4170 893 1200 (1)
in its place. Turn crankshaft
counterclockwise until the piston
butts against the locking screw.

 Use wrench (2) 4141 893 1300 to
remove starter cup (1) from
crankshaft.
Install in the reverse sequence.
Tighten down starter cup to 19 Nm
(14 lbf.ft).

Rewind Spring

Replacing

– Remove the shroud - see 5.1.
– Remove the rewind starter - see
7.2.
Note:
The rewind spring will not be under
tension if the starter rope is broken.

– To relieve tension, pull out the
starter rope a few centimeters.
Hold the rope rotor steady.
 Use assembly hook (1)
5910 890 2800 (1) to make loop
starter rope. While still holding
rope rotor (2) steady, unwind two
turns of the rope.
– Pull out rope with the starter grip,
let go of rotor and allow it to spin
back to relieve spring tension.
Note:
It is not necessary to remove the
starter rope to replace the rewind
spring.
