 Take out the screw (1) and
remove the spring (3) with
washer (2).
 Carefully remove the rope
rotor (4).
Caution:
The rewind spring is installed in the
rope rotor. It may pop out and uncoil
if the rope rotor is not removed very
carefully.
– Take the rewind spring out of the
rope rotor.
Note:
The replacement spring comes
ready for installation and is held
together by a wire retainer. It should
be lubricated with a few drops of
STIHL special lubricant before
installation - see 11.

 Fit rewind spring (1) in the rope
rotor so that the anchor loop (2)
engages the recess (3). The wire
retainer slips off during
installation.
Caution:
The rewind spring may pop out and
uncoil during installation.
If the rewind spring has popped out,
see "Standard Repairs, Trouble-
shooting" handbook.

 Fit rope rotor in starter cover and
engage inner spring loop (1) in
slot (2) at the same time.

 Fit spring (3) with washer (2) and
tighten down screw (1) to 1.1 Nm
(0.8 lbf.ft).
– Tension the rewind spring - see
7.4.2.
– Install the rewind starter - see
7.2.
