TapeStor 8GB Installation Manual
About your Travan Tape Drive
The TapeStor 8GB attaches to your SCSI or ATAPI host
adapter. The drive uses software data compression to
store up to 8 Gbytes on a single Travan TR-4 cartridge.
This drive can read from and write to tapes support-
ing the QIC-3095 and QIC-3080 standards. It can read
previously written tapes in the QIC-80, QIC-3020, and
QIC-3010 formats.
In an optimally configured system, the TapeStor 8GB
can transfer data at up to 60 Mbytes/minute with 2:1
data compression. Uncompressed data-transfer rates
range from 18 to 30 Mbytes/min for the ATAPI drive
and up to 36 Mbytes/min for the SCSI drive.
This drive uses Seagate FastSense(TM) technology for
enhanced performance. FastSense allows the drive to
switch to the fastest data-transfer rate supported by
your computer system.
The drive is designed to be mounted inside a com-
puter, in a 3.5-inch or (with the included mounting
brackets) 5.25-inch drive bay.
