Retensioning tapes
Retensioning is essential to remove unwanted tight
spots that develop naturally on tape. If you ever have
a problem reading a tape, retensioning may solve the
problem.
Retension a cartridge in any of the following cases:
• if it is being used for the first time
• if it has not been used for over a month
• if it has been dropped
• if it has been shipped
• if it has been exposed to a significant change in
temperature.
Ideally, cartridges used for daily backups should be
retensioned once a week.
