Chapter 4—Recording

Monitoring

In a typical D24 multitrack recording system, monitoring is performed at the mixing
console via the tape returns, which are connected to the D24's track outputs via mini
YGDAI cards ("About mini YGDAI Cards" on page 182). The signal source for each
track output, either playback or input signal, depends on that track's [RECORD
READY] button setting, the transport mode (e.g., stop, playback, or record), and the
[AUTO INPUT] and [ALL INPUT] MONITOR SELECT buttons, as shown in the fol-
lowing illustrations.
The disk and plug symbols used in the following illustrations are explained below.
In the following illustration, the [AUTO INPUT] and [ALL INPUT] buttons are both
turned off. Tracks not selected for recording don't output anything during stop, fast for-
ward, or rewind, but output playback signals during playback, recording, or rehearsal.
Tracks selected for recording output the track input signal regardless of the transport
mode.

In the following illustration, the [AUTO INPUT] button is turned on, the default set-
ting. Tracks not selected for recording function as before. Tracks selected for recording,
however, output playback signals during playback, but switch to track input signals
during recording or rehearsal. This setting is convenient for punch in/out recording.
