Modes
The
vertical
display and
the
internal
gate display
can
be
operated
in either alternate or
chop mode, depending

internal
Display Mode
switch

Alternate
Mode.
The All position (toward front
panel)
of
the
Display Mode
~i
tch
produces a display
that
alternates
between the
vertical
display and the gate display
with each sweep
on the
CRT.
Although
the Alt mode can
be used
at all sweep rates,
the Chop mode provides a more
satisfa
ctory
display
at sweep rates
below about 0.2 milli-
second per
division
.
At
slow
sweep rates,
alternate
mode
SNi tching
becomes
visually
per~ptible.
Chop
Mode. The Chop position howard rear) of the
Display Mode
switch
produces
a
display that is
electron-
ically
switched between
the
input
display and the trigger
gate
display
at
app rox
imately a 500 kilohertz rate (con·
trolled by mainframe)
.
In
general,
the Chop mode provides
the
best
display
at sweep
rates
slower
tha
n
about 0.2 milli·
second
per division.

Extreme
car
e should
be
exercised
when handHng
the
7012
to
prevent
touching
any
part
of
the
circuit
boards.
This
unit contains several
high
impedance
circuits which
can develop inter·leakage
if
con
tam
i-
nated by body
salts or
acids.

Avoid the use of
chemical
cleaning agents which
might damage the plastics
used in
chis
instrument.
Avoid chemicals that contain
benzene,
toluene,
acetone
or similar solvents.
Recommended
cleaning
agents are
isopropyl
alcohol
or
KeHte
(1
part Kelite
,
20
pans
water}.
The 7012
is
calibrated
and
ready for use
with
a module
as
received.
It
can be installed
in
any compartment of
Tektronix
7oo0·serie5
oscitloscopes,
but
is
intended
prin-
cipally for
use
in
vertical
plug·
in
compartments.
To
install,
align the upper and
lower
rails of the 70 12 wit
h
the
oscilloscope tracks and tully insert it. The
front
is
flush
w
ith the
front of the oscilloscope when the
7012 is
fully
Inserted, and
the latch
at
the
bottom-Ielt
corner
of the
7012 will be
in
place against the front-panel. See Fig. 1-4.
Set the
oscilloscope
for
a
vertical
mode
to correspond
with
the
vertical
compartment
used when
an
analog
signal is
to be displayed. The digital
readou
t
w
ill
be displayed
regardless of the
vertical
mode selected.
To
remove the
7012,
pull
on
the latch (which is
inscribed
with
the unit Identification
"7012")
and the
F'Q.
