8.2. Tonk Adjustments

The tonk mechanism lowers the wire into the terminal crimp barrel during termination.
A. Tonk Alignment With Lower Jaw
The tonk foot should align front-to-back with the lower grip jaw. If the tonk foot is too far toward the operator, it
could interfere with the guard. If it is too far toward the terminator, it could hit the wire blades.
1. Manually cycle the terminator to bring the tonk foot (Figure 12) down to meet the grip jaw.
When manually cycling the terminator, the gripper mechanism should be manually transferred completely to the left.
NOTE
Damage could occur if the terminator is cycled when the gripper mechanism is not located COMPLETELY to the left.
i
2. Observe the alignment of the tonk foot to the lower grip jaw.
The tonk foot can be adjusted "in and out" of the machine by moving the large block that the tonk rod mounts
into. The block has two large set screws that secure it to the ram adapter of the terminator. Loosen the two
set screws and move the block in or out. Tighten the set screws. The tonk foot can be adjusted left-to-right
relative to the tonk rod. Loosen the screw that secures the tonk foot to the tonk rod. Move the tonk foot left or
right. Tighten the screw.
