7.1 Dismantling the starter

WARNING!
The return spring lies tensioned
in the starter and can fly out
and cause personal injury
with careless handling. Wear
protective glasses.

Starter, cylinder cover and half of the cover over
the muffler is one unit. Remove all 8 screws
including those holding the guard screen over the
muffler. See figure 1.
NOTE!
The 3 screws (A) on the starter pulley
have metric threads.

Offload the spring tension.
Lift up the starter cord on the starter pulley and
allow it to rotate clockwise. Slow the rotation with
your thumb.
Remove the screw. Carefully remove the drive disc
for the pressure equalization spring. See figure 2.

Carefully lift off the starter pulley together with the
pressure equalization spring. See figure 3.
NOTE!
Be careful! The recoil spring must not fly
off its position in the starter pulley.

Rotate the pressure equalization spring
counterclockwise and then lift it off the starter
pulley. See figure 4.
When dismantling the entire engine, also dismantle
the dics drive before continuing.
