3. Stir the water and slowly add a small quantity of the sulfuric acid. The
solution becomes warm. Stir the solution again and add the
remaining sulfuric acid in small quantities. The solution becomes hot.
4. Let the solution temperature decrease to approximately 25 °C.
5. Dilute to the mark with deionized water. Mix fully.
6. Add the solution to the analyzer bottle. Insert the seal assembly and
put the cap on.
Prepare Standard 1
Use this procedure to make a 500 µg/L silica standard solution. Be sure
to clean all labware before use.
Note: To measure silica more than 500 ppb, it may be necessary to calibrate at a
value closer to the expected value. For example, if an expected value for the
process is 2000 ppb, prepare a 2000 ppb standard and calibrate the instrument
with the 2000 ppb instead of a 500 ppb standard.
Items to collect:
• Silica standard solution, 1 g/L as SiO
• Volumetric flask, 2 L
• 1-mL pipet
• Deionized water, 2 L
• Analyzer Bottle #S1
1. Add approximately half of the deionized water to the volumetric flask.
2. Add 1 mL of the 1 g/L standard solution.
3. Dilute to the mark with deionized water. Mix fully.
4. Add the solution to the analyzer bottle. Insert the seal assembly and
put the cap on.
Turn on the analyzer
1. Open the top door.
2. Pull open the analytics panel. A magnetic latch holds the panel
closed.
3. Turn on the power switch on the main circuit board (refer to
on page 4).

4. Close the analytics panel.
Start the analyzer setup
When the analyzer is powered on for the first time, or powered on after
the configuration settings have been set to their default values:
1. Select the applicable LANGUAGE.
2. Select the DATE FORMAT.
3. Set the DATE and TIME.
4. When prompted, confirm with YES to setup the analyzer.
Note: The analyzer stays in initialization mode until the configuration is
complete.
5. Select the channel.
6. Select the measurement mode.
7. The setup results for the channel, sample flow, sample pressure and
minimum flow are shown. Make sure that the following values are
within range:
• Sample pressure: minimum 0.14 bar (2 psi)
Note: The maximum pressure is regulated by a pressure regulator at
0.28 bar (4 psi).
• Minimum flow: 55 mL/minute
8. Push enter to confirm.
9. When prompted, make sure that the reagent bottles are full and
confirm with YES.
10. When prompted, make sure that the standard bottles are full and
confirm with YES.
Note: The analyzer setup does not configure relays, outputs, network cards,
calculations or calibration parameters. Refer to
configuration information for calibration parameters. Refer to
on page 12 for configuration information for relays, outputs or network cards.
