i. Remove the rod puller and rod puller at-
tachment.
j. Install the damper adjusting rods and cap
bolt, and then finger tighten the cap bolt.

WARNING
Always use a new cap bolt O-ring.
k. Hold the cap bolt "5" and tighten the lock-
nut "3" to specification.
ECA17390
NOTICE
When loosening the nut, be sure not to break
the projections on the cap bolt collar of the
cap bolt.
Front fork cap bolt locknut
15 N·m (1.5 kgf·m, 11 lb·ft)
l. Remove the rod holder and fork spring
compressor.
16.Install:
• Cap bolt
(to the outer tube)
TIP
• Temporarily tighten the cap bolt.
• When to tighten the cap bolt to the specified
torque is after installing the front fork leg to the
vehicle and tightening the lower bracket pinch
bolts.

INSTALLING THE FRONT FORK LEGS (for
YZF-R1)
The following procedure applies to both of the
front fork legs.
1. Install:
• Front fork leg
Temporarily tighten the upper and lower
bracket pinch bolts.

WARNING
Make sure the brake hoses are routed prop-
erly.
TIP
Align the outer tube with the position "a" as
shown in the illustration.

2. Tighten:
• Lower bracket pinch bolts "1" and "2"
Lower bracket pinch bolt
23 N·m (2.3 kgf·m, 17 lb·ft)
TIP
Tighten each bolt to 23 N·m (2.3 kgf·m, 17 lb·ft)
in the order pinch bolt "1" → pinch bolt "2" →
pinch bolt "1" → pinch bolt "2".
3. Tighten:
• Cap bolt "1"
Front fork cap bolt
23 N·m (2.3 kgf·m, 17 lb·ft)
