Optical Power Loss By Fiber Cable Type
Although fiber optical cable can carry light signals over long distances, optical power
loss can reduce this capability. Table 22 shows the ranges and typical amounts of
power loss for different types of fiber cables. To determine the power loss in your fiber
cable, refer to the loss characteristic established by the cable manufacturer.
When calculating the total power loss for an ATM connection, be sure to use the
highest value in the range given in the Power Loss column. In this way, your
calculation covers a "worst case" scenario.
