3-12 SHANK HOLDERS

3-12.1 Mark shank holder locations on frame as
indicated by appropriate assembly layout.
3-12.2 If using twisted shovels, install all shanks
so shovels throw soil inward except shovels
near wheels. Position those shovels to throw
out- ward. See arrows indicating throwing di-
rection on assembly layout.

3-11.1 Install shovels on shanks with two 1/2"
plow bolts (See Figure 3-17).
a. If installing 5-hole twisted shovels, use 2nd
and 3rd holes with one hole below end of
shank.
b. If installing 3-hole shovels, use lower two
holes with no holes below end of shank.
3-12.3 To ensure the chisel plow pulls evenly, in-
stall correct number of RH and LH twisted
shovels (See Figures 3-38 - 3-45 for assem-
bly layouts).
3-12.4 Rigid Shank Holders
a. Mount shank assembly to frame with two
plates, 3/4" x 9-1/2" cap screw and 3/4" x
9-1/2" U-bolts, lock washers, nuts (See Fig-
ure 3-18).
3-12.5 Spring Cushion Shank Holders
a. Mount shank assembly to frame with two
5/8" bent bolts and two 5/8" x 3-3/4" Grade 8
bolts, lock nuts and plate (See Figure 3-19).
