CHECKING THE WHEEL

The following procedure applies to all of the
wheel bearings.
1. Check:
• Wheel bearings
Refer to "CHECKING THE FRONT WHEEL"
on page 5-6 and "CHECKING THE REAR
WHEEL" on page 5-11.

CHECKING THE SWINGARM OPERATION
1. Check:
• Swingarm operation
Swingarm not working properly

Check
the swingarm.
Refer to "SWINGARM" on page 5-67.
2. Check:
• Swingarm excessive play
Refer to "SWI NGARM" on page 5-67.

ADJUSTING THE DRIVE CHAIN SLACK

A drive chain that is too tight will overload
the engine and other vital parts, and one
that is too loose can skip and damage the
swingarm or cause an accident. Therefore,
keep the drive _chain. slack within the speci-
fied limits.
1. Elevate the rear wheel by placing the suit-
able stand under the engine.

When checking and adjusting the drive chain
slack, there should be no weight on the motor-
cycle.

2. Shift the transmission into the neutral_ posi-
tion.
3. Pull the drive chain up above the drive chain
guard installation bolt with a force of SON
(5.0 kgf, 36 lbf).
· 4. Check:
• Drive chain slack "a"
Out of specification

Adjust.

Measure drive chain slack between the drive
chain guard and the bottom of the chain
as
shown.
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
1. Drive chain slack
2. Chain support mounting bolt
3. Chain tensioner

· • Drive chain slack

a. Loosen the wheel axle nut "1 ".
b. Loosen both locknuts "2".

c. Turn the drive chain puller "3" in direction "a"
or "b" until the specified drive chain slack is
obtained.
Direction "a"
Drive chain is tightened.
Direction "b"
Drive chain is loosened.

• To maintain the proper wheel alignment, ad-
just both sides evenly.
•Push the rear wheel forward to make sure
there is no clearance between the swingarm
end plates and the ends of the
~wingarm.
d. Tighten the locknut.

19 Nm (1.9 m·kgf, 14 ft-lbf)
