3 Maintenance

To verify proper operation of the DP system the actions described in this chapter must be taken periodically. Most of
these actions can only be performed by getting access to the Windows system.

3.1 Planned Maintenance

Planned Maintenance should comprise:

1. System Restart.

2. UPS.

3. Check Free Disk Space.

4. Set Date and Time.
5. Joystick Calibration.
3.1.1 System Restart
To test whether the system starts up properly, the start-up procedure should be tested once a week. This procedure also
prevents possible accumulating errors to disrupt system performance.
The DP system should not be in use when doing the start-up test. Perform the following start-up procedure:
1. Turn off DP1, DP2 and JC system. MPC, I/O and switches for hardware must be powered down.
2. Wait at least 10 seconds and check that LEDs on switches are off.
3. Turn on DP1, DP2 and JC system (MPC, I/O and switches).
4. Check DP1, DP2 and JC displays during start-up, this takes about 5 minutes, and it should display:
a. BIOS report.
b. Windows XP start-up.
c. AlphaDynaPos CamClient start-up.
3.1.2 UPS
The UPS batteries must be replaced once every 4 years. When batteries are replaced, the dates of the changes must be
noted on the UPS label (Appendix A: UPS Battery History on page 84).
The UPS must be checked once a year during the annual DP classification check. During this test the UPS is used as
the only supply for the DP system and it must be able to power the DP system for at least 30 minutes (see classification
rules).
3.1.3 Check Free Disk Space
Check the system on a weekly basis to avoid running into disk space issues.
1. Click on Logo at the right top of the screen, with the tracker ball.
The system controller screen appears.
2. Select the "On Screen Keyboard" icon at the right bottom of the screen.
3. Press the key with Windows Logo on the "On Screen Keyboard" and press the "E" key in "On Screen Keyboard".
4. Locate the D: drive at the left side of the Windows.
Note There should always be 50MB or more free space available on D: drive. If this is not the case please
call Alphatron Marine service department to check for a solution.
