STEERING COLUMN MANDATORY INSTALLATION SEQUENCE
1. Position rolled portion of dash seal (part of column asm,} at column lower reaction tab-two inches from bottom
of jacket* CAUTION. Rolled portion of seal must be directed down column toward front of car and must remain
in this position during and after column installation* See View B.
2. Install upper (A) and lower (B) steering column to dash covers on column and tighten two screws (C) so that
cover assembly Is snug on column but still will move with respect to column*
3. Glue seal (D) (part of the column assembly) to upper (A) and lower cover (B).
4. Position wedge on forward support with retainer (L).
m . Position column in car.
6. Attach steering shaft flange to rag joint and tighten nuts (G) to specified torque.
7. After mast jacket bracket to mast jacket bolts are tightened to specified torque, install two rearward mast
jacket bracket retaining nuts (H) and tijghten nuts to specified torque while holding rag joint to flange clearance
dimension (X) shown on Sheet A-3.
8. Position wedge (E) to distance required to fill gap—do not force wedge beyond this point.
9. Holding wedge in position, install forward mast jacket bracket nut (K) and tighten the nut to specified torque.
NOTE For remaining steps, upper (A) and lower (B) cover must move to established position of column which
has been determined by rag joint and I. P. attachment.
10. Push upper (A) and lower (B) cover assembly to dash and line up all cover to dash attaching holes. CAUTION!
Do not permit rolled section of seal (D) to reverse itself.
11. Holding both upper 6 lower cover assemblies against dash & column, install & tighten two screws (J) to the
specified torque.
12. Tighten two screws (C) to specified torque.
13. Loosen two screws (J) & shake column in area Immediately above cover, so as to make certain column
position is not affected by column to dash cover attachment*
14 Install screw (M) & tighten it along with two screws (J) to specified torque.
