Setting Up and Operating the SIMATIC Box PC 620
3.6

Raid system (optional)

The system is configured as RAID1 (disk mirroring on two drives). The hard drives
are operated on an IDE channel of the RAID Controller as masters. This way, the
system can solve cable problems on a bus by itself and a high degree of fault
tolerance is achieved for SIMATIC Box PC 620.
A RAID Controller of type Promise FastTrack 100 TX2 is installed for the EIDE
drives.
The RAID Controller is installed on slot number 2 of the module.
Note
For the operation of the RAID system refer to the electronical RAID Controller
manual on the CD "Documentation and Drivers" supplied. The new hard disk is
synchronized in the background; this takes some time (may run into hours)
depending on the size of the hard drive and system workload.
The safe system state RAID Level 1 is reached after the successful completion of
the synchronization.
Notes on error
Input delay
Depending on the processor utilization and the current hard disk activity, the
system load may increase temporarily during a disk failure, based on synchroni-
zation procedures.
In extreme cases, operator inputs via keyboard and touch screen may be delayed
for a while.
BIOS message during startup
The first time you restart after a disk failure or after installing a new hard disk, the
RAID BIOS outputs the message that the RAID functionality no longer exists and
offers corresponding operating options. The operating system startup is continued
after confirmation. You require a connected keyboard device to do this!
The RAID BIOS function "Halt On Error" can be set to "disable" in the RAID-BIOS.
The system then skips this stop.
