Fuel Tank

The Fuel tank installation is very simple, the
factory fitted tank tray accepts the same tank as
the Hawk and is held in position with simple
Velcro straps. The vent/outlet position should be
kept wide in the fuselage, the curvature of the
fuselage lower skin will ensure the outlet tube
will be kept clear of the ground.
Make up the fuel tank in the standard CARF
way, it has been proven over thousands of
flights and it works. Clean the tank with alcohol
(Water takes too long to evaporate) to ensure
any loose debris are removed. The tank features
a centre 'Anti Splash baffle' which would cut
through the clunk line if just the flexible tube
was used.
The tank set includes a header tank that fits the
factory installed sub tank holder on the left side
of the main tank. This will also hold the popular
header tanks sold by various manufacturers.
If using a header tank the main fuel tank
requires only two lines, a clunk line and
breather. Keep the tubing from the fuel tank
as short as possible to allow for cockpit tub
clearance. The fuel tank is just behind the
cockpit bulkhead.
Start by cleaning up the supplied brass tubes,
debur inside and out and flush through the tubes
(Aerosol CA kicker is great for this) Three tubes
are required in total. Clean the outside with
fine glass paper in preparation for soldering
the tank barbs supplied. One can be completed
with barbs at both ends as this will be inserted
in the centre of the clunk line, mid way through
the tank baffle. The other two should have
barbs only on one end for now, before inserting
through the tank bung. Soldering the opposite
end can be completed by soaking some strips
of cloth in water and wrapping them around
the tube to be soldered. This absorbs the heat,
reducing the chance of melting the rubber bung.

Use Tygon tubing as the clunk line and use the
supplied felt clunk as supplied. At each joint
locking wire, or a second ring of Tygon tube cut
approx 3mm long slipped over the tube will seal
each joint.
If fitting the optional smoke tank it should be
assembled in the same way, but with three tubes.
