1.1. Remove plug from the fuel tank vent nipple and reconnect fuel vent line to nipple. Open the fuel
shut-off valve (Figure 15, Page 27). Make sure the valve is fully open. A partially closed fuel valve
(Figure 16, Page 28) combined with the use of the choke, can result in a fouled spark plug and
engine failure.

1.2. Place the Forward/Reverse handle in the NEUTRAL position and the neutral lockout cam in the
SERVICE position. Crank the engine until fuel is pumped into the carburetor and fuel lines and
the engine starts. Turn the engine off and return the neutral lockout cam to the OPERATE posi-
tion.
2. Readjust tire pressure. See Tire Capacities, Page 32.
3. Perform the Pre-Operation Checklist. See page 17. See following NOTE.
NOTE
• WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER IT HAS BEEN STORED, IT MAY
SMOKE EXCESSIVELY FOR A SHORT WHILE. THIS IS DUE TO THE OIL THAT WAS ADDED TO
THE ENGINE TO PREPARE IT FOR STORAGE.

GENERAL INFORMATION
To ensure trouble-free vehicle performance, it is very important to follow an established preventive mainte-
nance program. Regular and consistent vehicle maintenance can prevent vehicle downtime and expensive
repairs that result from neglect. Any vehicle not functioning correctly should be removed from use until it is
properly repaired. This will prevent further damage to the vehicle and avoid the possibility of injury due to
unsafe conditions.
